Mike Abbott, of RedBird Communications, has been in marketing and marketing
communications for over 30 years, working for blue chip companies such
as Thorn, Gestetner, Monsanto, British Airways, Dulux Paints, BT and Sun
Microsystems. He also has a wealth of experience helping grow start-up
businesses including Rentacrate, and Senelco retail security systems.
BT
At BT, in the mid-eighties, Mike managed
the launch of the company's Information Exchange IT initiative for BT's
enterprise computing network customers, as well as consumer product launches
and payphone and phone card promotional activities.
Sun Microsystems
More recently, at Sun Microsystems, Mike was responsible for production
of the company's industry-leading portfolio of Sun 'Essential' guides
- a suite of A5 books on all aspects of network computing. He was also
responsible for Sun's quarterly 'Futureproof' publications - the UK IT
industry's leading customer magazine.
Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
On secondment from BT, Mike was marketing
manager at Shakespear's Globe in the early nineties. Working with the
founder, American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, he kick-started the
dormant funding and donations process which led directly to the restart
of building work, and eventual completion of the project. Shakespeare's
Globe is on the South Bank of the Thames opposite St. Paul's Cathedral.
It was officially opened by her majesty the Queen in the summer of 1997.
